As I was working on this month’s word count for Mates and Allies, the serial story, I realized something. I really like writing these serialized novels. With the work I finished up today, I’m right at 70,000 words for this story (with at least one more book, probably three or four) planned in this particular series before I move onto the next group of mates I’m going to write about. This is the longest story I’ve written in an extremely long time. Most of my work tends to be about half that size, and yet, by writing in short increments (my goal is 6000 words a month, or three chapters), I’ve racked up quite the word count and I expect I’m about three quarters finished.
One of the things I realized I really enjoy about writing this serial is that I can get really into the emotions. I can go into the details, and even dare I say the minutiae of the relationship. I’m having fun exploring these characters, and there are four mates so there is a lot to get into.
I tend to write serialized novels, so while each chapter I hope leaves the reader wanting more, I don’t specifically write serial fiction in the way that television shows are serialized or other people serialize fiction. And yes, these stories will be published as stand alone novels as well, so if you only read finished books don’t worry. You’ll get your chance as well.
I hope you enjoy my serial. Are you a subscriber? There should be a popup on this page or check out the Spicy Members page.
